Holiday Season Thoughts

This holiday season I am feeling extra blessed. Traditionally, this is the perfect time of the year to reflect and determine what your goals are for the future. I cannot help but sit back and think about how thankful I am for a family who continues to do all that they can to support me. I am very fortunate to have parents who went above and beyond to ensure that I received the resources I needed as a child. I often think about how challenging it might have been when they found out I was born with severe hearing loss, and that they had no idea what to do or where to start since I was their first child. I give them so much credit for the research they did and the questions they asked during every step of my childhood. They truly put a lot of effort into ensuring that I felt no different than my peers. Now, as an adult, I am so thankful for all that they did to help me succeed in life. I would not be where I am today if they did not fight for me to earn an equal education, pushed me to participate in sports and supported me in my life decisions. I hope that one day I can be half of the parent that they were to me.

During this holiday season, I encourage you to think about what makes you feel blessed. I ask you to sit back and reflect on the journey you have taken and how you got to where you are at today. Being different or having a unique path does not make your journey any less meaningful. Thank you all for being a part of my story and I hope you decide to stick around in 2022. Hearing Impaired Gal was created as a way for me to put my thoughts into words and share my experiences. I hope to continue reaching my goals and helping as many people as possible. Always remember- if it helped me, maybe it will help you
